The PayPal Giving Fund, "Raising Funds to Benefit Charities."
Oct. 11, 2023
The Valley Chapter of the California Turtle & Tortoise Club (CTTC) has opted for a different PayPal donation platform. You can access it by clicking on the"Donate" button over on the CTTC-Valley's own web page. Click on the link below, then scroll down.
The PayPal Giving Fund account that was used throughout the Sofa Cushion Challenge fundraising period has now been closed. Back in 2019, GoFundMe would only allow direct-to-charity donations from their platform if said charity registered with the PayPal Giving Fund. The CTTC-Valley opened their own PayPal Giving Fund account in 2019 so that the original GoFundMe "Sick and Injured Tortoises Fund" would show them as the 501(c)(3) non-profit, "Certified Charity" that they are and so that donated funds could be direct-deposited into their account.
The PayPal Giving Fund is, however, an indirect manner of giving. Funds donated to a GoFundMe certified charity are actually received by the PayPal Giving Fund first. The PayPal Giving Fund then re-donates the funds to the charity for whom they were originally intended. You can learn more about that process here.
Now that the fundraiser has ended, there's no reason for this roundabout approach. As a result, funds donated directly via the method now employed by the CTTC-Valley are received by them in a fraction of the former time and without any question of their being diverted elsewhere. Once again, here's the link to their Webpage. Remember, after clicking on the link, scroll down to the "Donate" button and then click on that. Thanks!
